A showy addition to herb and pollinator gardens, Bergamot is a versatile perennial, native to the eastern United States. Its pungent, mint-scented leaves are often used for tea—and hummingbirds, native bees and other pollinators are attracted to its fragrant purple flowers. Growing 3-4 ft. tall, this perennial has a long flowering period throughout the summer time, and its flowers also look good in cut floral arrangements. Bergamot grows in sandy, clay or loam soils, and does best when planted in full sun to partial shade and in dry to moderate moisture conditions. It’s an easy-to-grow plant for home gardens, rain garden and meadow plantings. Bergamot is part of the Parfum de Bloom™ series. The varieties in this series are reliably, powerfully and delightfully fragrant.
